Good Week

Today the Robbins party landed 4 more fish bringing their weeks total to 27. The highlight of the day was Gina Jones landing a lovely fresh hen of 5 lbs to her own fly rod. Hugh Robbins took his total for the week to 13 ! Sandra Robbins was an ace on the Devon in the March hole with a cracking 8lb licer whilst Lord Ford landed a 13lb liced hen at Hedge End.
Thanks to the Robbins party for a great week.

It's on!

After a slow start to september we seem to be there (caution in my words), the river remains low but the fish are improving in numbers although not at the Shochie or most of the bottom beat. a bit of water should fix that.
Hugh Robbins on this day last year got that 32lb fish on the flea. Today he hoped for the best and landed 5 to his own rod. 3 on the FRD and 2 on the flea! Fantastic.  Gina Jones had a great day also with 1 on the flea and 2 on the FRD, well done Gina, cracking fish and fights. Sandra Robbins rounded off a lovely day with a fish on the Vision.

Doing Very Well Thanks

Given the low catches on the river, especially the lower river, Upper Redgorton is more than holding it's own. Getting a fish at the moment is much harder than getting one in the spring and most of the beats on the Tay know it. Our rods should be very proud of themselves, thanks guys.
One of two fish  Richard Onslow, part of the Williams party, landed in the Craigs on monday fishing the URG bank on the fly. Great!
Mike Duffield got one first thing from the boat in the Fireshot, again on the flea on tuesday. Fantastic to hear your Perfect sing once again Mike.
It was Mikes son James Duffield who was next to strike twice in the Craigs on wednesday morning. Two fish, the biggest 15lb both on a Cascade. Fantastic Jim, and the picture will follow.
Today Alan Everington was in action getting a fresh grilse in Berhaugh with Jock, number 6 this week on the fly,  great height down there at the moment and well done.

August Fishing

As the river has kept some water we are starting to see more fish.
John Wilson got this lovely 14lb hen, his second fish of the day, on the harl. Well done John.

Thursday 22 August 2013

Holland House Electrical

Guests of Holland House have been in action this week picking up a few fish in difficult conditions. But with a rise in the water we should be getting a few more too.
Alistair Dunnet caught this fine Salmon on a Monkey fly in the Craigs before releasing.
Ian Willis landed this fish on a Vision, well done Ian.
And Nigel (lord) Ford after some fly fishing tips from Mick Mcdaid caught and landed this cracking grilse.
Great going Nigel and lets hope for many more for you in the future.

Saturday 3 August 2013

August Fish

Stuart and Archie Mitchell got the back end off to a start with a lovely wee grilse taken on the harl.
The river has been very low and warm over the last 6 weeks and even though we have dirty water - at least we have water now and as a result we also have fish.
looking forward to next week already!

Boat Off

That was a spring to remember, the best for many years so well done to all our rods!
The boat is off and we look forward to a great rest of season. Cheers, Mike.

Thursday 2 May 2013

17lber

Upper Redgorton had the pleasure of the Melville part today who took this 17lb springer from Benchil Green on the Blair spoon. This was Robert Melville Jnr who got the fish prior to its safe release.
This was our 30th fish of the season so far. Great.

Better level!

The water has at last come down to a good level for us so let's hope for some more fish like this!
Sandy Nicol caught this belter on the vision at the Red Braes, a pool that has not been fished in the last week and a half due to the high water. We were watching the Sand-Martins preparing their burrows when the rod rattled! Well done Sandy.

Saturday 20 April 2013

Phew!

That came close to a week with no springer! But on the only day we fished (due to massive river all week) we got him. A lovely 8lb sea licer and one of the best looking fish so far. It was caught by Greggor Nimmo on the harled Vision and gave him a scrap to remember in high water. It's down to 2.5 feet above the stone and the colour is getting better. Lets hope for good catches next week.
It's common for fish at this time of year to be upside down.(need a lesson in basic computing).

Tuesday 16 April 2013

The Tay

Big water today, after it fell to 4.5 ft above the stone it's back up over the grass at 5pm.

Sunday 14 April 2013

Well, it was on the cards.

Temp up - snow since november in the river.
This was the tay at 7pm today. And there is plenty more where that came from. Plums!

Saturday 13 April 2013

Nice one

Another springer for Peter Morrison who pulled this beauty out with his cast kynoch! Heads of lice on its gill plates so in for only a few days, well done Peter.

Thursday 11 April 2013

Lots of Wilsons and two more fish!

Great day today with another couple of sea liced spring salmon! Norrie Wilson got the first fishing with Kenny Wilson in the Fireshot before lunch.11lb
Then it was Jeff Wilson in the afternoon landing his first ever springer, at the Red Braes on the fly. Well done for a great 10lb fish!

Wednesday 10 April 2013

Another fantastic spring salmon

Rab Brown and his pal Joe were down today to give it a go. After a morning in amongst many kelts it was Joe who struck silver with this lovely liced 10lb springer on the fly.
Well done boys.

Tuesday 9 April 2013

2 More

Alan Barraclough with a 8lb springer at the Well Hole on monday and Jack Arthur with a sea liced 11 lb fish today on the fly at the Fireshot, well done guys!

Saturday 6 April 2013

More young anglers landing fish

Although no springers today, we finished the week on a high as Michael Sly's party saw Will and Lucy (brother and sister) landing fish. Will had two kelts to his own rod in the morning and Lucy one on the fly. Well done - the future is in safe hands.

We have seen many kelts at the tail of the beat all week, but another five springers this week and lets hope for more!

Thursday 4 April 2013

5 springers so far this week

Thanks to Michael Sly who has not been able to fish so far this week but was keen for others to do so.
Young Charlie Robbins managed to complete his hat trick by landing this beautiful 11lb springer taken on a vision. He later went on to land a kelt on the fly!

Monday 1 April 2013

20!

Fantastic end to last week and start to this week.
On Saturday Ross Mcgregor (again) got another 9lb springer in Berhaugh followed by Peter Morrison getting a 16lb fish at the Shochie with Jock Tait at the helm.
That took us up to 16 springers for the season - could we get the 20?
Yep!
Monday morning and Jim Kilgour gets the first springer. 10lb belter on the fly. Another seal marked fish.

Then Ross Mcgregor (again) with a 10lb springer on the fly which took in the craigs and was landed below the cradle stone.
Next up was Charlie Robbins. This spring specialist caught his first ever salmon, on the fly just below the Fishponds hut in the morning.

And his second, again on the fly, after lunch. Well done Charlie! 8 years old.

A great time.

Thursday 28 March 2013

Another great day

Peter Morrison took the place today with his party hitting the jackpot after ten minutes with a very special 16lb long tailed licer for guest John Bushell. This was John's first time salmon fishing and he did a grand job landing this fish from the boat on a pink and white kynoch - easy.
Well done John and Peter (who supplied the lure as well as putting on the day)!

Wednesday 27 March 2013

Long tail Licer

Sandy Harrison caught this long tailed licer on the fly fishing from the stream at the bothy. Another day when we saw fish head and tailing. The boat lost one on the vision.
This spring has been great fun.

Tuesday 26 March 2013

Still great conditions

The water is still cold and low and perfect for us at Upper Redgorton.
Yesterday we got the week off to a good start with the help of Bill and Sandra Robbins's grandson Billy. The young salmon fisherman had a warm up with a kelt first of all on the fly and then got down to the real deal by playing and landing his first Springer - a 13lb belter! The rod was in capable hands for the battle so well done Billy and let's hope for more success from you in the future.

Saturday 23 March 2013

Long may this continue

Well the howling ice cold wind and snow didn't put us off today as the good spring run and low cold water favoured URG again today. We hooked 5 definite spring fish and a couple of kelts, landed two of the springers and so nearly landed two more.
Jim Kilgour was the first to hook up on the fly in the fireshot and after a good ten minute fight the fish came off in the shallow water. Next up was Greggor Nimmo who landed his best fish of the spring - a 20lb licer on the fly. His fish took a black and yellow monkey and was leaving us watching backing for 15 minutes before any impression was made. Once the fish was put back we went out again and in the same spot hooked up straight away on the same fly to another big fish which tore away, and away and off!
Then it was Ross Mcgregors turn who added to his total of 4 last week with another fish of 8lb, long tailed sea liced, again in the fireshot and again on the fly. 7 of our 11 springers so far have been on the fly.
Straight after lunch the wind picked up again and it felt like the temp dropped further. Greggor played another springer in the Shochie at 5pm on the Rapala which led him a merry dance again (mostly in Luncarty) before falling off at the back of the boat at the net!!!

All in all, a good day, and in a couple of ways - a sore one.

Wednesday 20 March 2013

Licer out of the gloom

The water is still coloured but clearing and the level is 7" below the stone. the day started with heavy snow but melted by lunchtime. The Springer we got straight after lunch wasn't bothered with the colour, and slammed the orange and white kynoch before taking off to the far side of the river for some time.

8lb sea liced spring salmon.

Tuesday 19 March 2013

Winter is Back

The water has been very dirty over the last two days but we should see a difference in the morning.

Sunday 17 March 2013

Hee hee

SIX in a week!!!
Great end to the week with another two fish including a very good 19lb fish on the fly for Greggor Nimmo. This fish put up one hell of a fight, taking in Cochran's and staying in Cochran's as we took the boat over to the Iron Burn in low water. Several times Greggor nearly had some fly line on the reel before the fish ran and ran with almost unstoppable power.
Rods were bent all over the place with a full squad out, Perth and District had 4 kelts, Greggor lost another good one on the fly which was on and showing, whilst Peter, his boat partner landed a big kelt on the cast kynoch. We also had an 11lb springer on the fly which has taken the count of fly caught Springers for the week to 5 out of the six!

A great week and one that Ross Mcgreggor will never forget.

Wednesday 13 March 2013

Another Springer

Ross Mcgregor has caught 3 springers in less than 24 hours at URG now with his latest taken in the craigs this morning. 9lb short tailed licer. All on the fly.

Tuesday 12 March 2013

Then 3 come at once!

Great day today as we got 3 springers in clear water which is 1'6" below the stone. Ross Mcgregor got us of the mark with one at 18lb on the fly off the knowes bank which was good enough but a few minutes later he made it two with another springer at 8lb. Fantastic work Ross! Then we got lucky too in the boat at the Shochie with Richard Smart, fishing with Michael Nimmo, landing a 13lb springer on the harled vision. This was Richards first salmon and straight after lunch he hooked and landed a good baggot at the Red Braes on a black flying C. What a day for you Richard, well done.

Thursday 7 March 2013

Holland House Guests

Alan and Steve from Inverurie, both guests from Holland House, cast a line today at Upper Redgorton. Steve, a very good fly fisher and part of the Scotland trout team, braved the water for alot of the day whilst Alan took to the boat. Alan had his first catch on the Tay with a kelt and right at the death down at the Shochie, fishing together with Steve he also hooked a Fish which tore off back towards the sea and got fed up with being hooked and so came off. That's Fishing!
I hope to see both Alan and Steve again someday.

Saturday 2 March 2013

Full Squad

Six rods were fishing today with blue skies and clear water again. Kelts were had with Jim Kilgour and Ross Mcgregor getting them on the fly and Peter and Greggor on the Kynoch. Peter had a real good fight with this kelt. The water is very settled a few inches below the stone so fingers crossed for next week.
