Any Day Now

This season has been very poor. Any day now there will be a massive run of fish, the river will back up, rain will come and we will be hauling them out in numbers not seen since the 1920's.
in the mean time, HF Electrical and The Nimmo party gave it a good go but there wasn't much about, cheers guys.
Hugh and capture Les from HF and a lovely 15lb fish, returned.
2' below and a nice day today

Big Water

The fishing today was in big brown water at 3 foot over the stone, but with great skill and determination we fished it hard. Thanks to the Millar/Williams party for giving it their best shot over the past 3 days in tricky conditions.
By the way, we are entering one of last weeks two fifteen pound fish in the TGA fish of the month competition.

Fly Fishing in the Craigs

At nearly 2 feet below the Stone, the Craigs, Lodge End and Bothy are fishing beautifully with the fly. All of the party fished the last day of their three hard as always with the fly and it was a pity there was a lack of fish on the beat for the effort put in. However, fly fishing (and wading) legend Jim Duffield was rewarded with a fresh Grilse of 6lb in the Craigs.

August Fishing

Lost a good one and got one.

The river is dropping fast but the water is cooling. We saw fish coming in between 3.30 and 5 with James Duffield losing one after some good wading at the redbreas. His father Mike landing a 6lb grilse in the fireshot fishing the fly in the morning, first rope, was the only fish of the day though. And here is the worst picture of a fish I have ever taken - sorry Mike. Hen fish returned.

Fresh Fish

We had some more catches this week.
On Thursday, Greg Mcarthur got this lovely grilse in the Craigs on a harled Scullhead, well done Greg.

On Saturday, Brian Crawford landed this 15lb hen, an absolugte beauty on the kynoch also in the Craigs and five minutes after his pal John got a fresh Grilse on a kynoch, both were licers.
Later that evening Jimmy Williamson got another 15 cock fish on the fly in the Craigs and a 3lb sea trout, fantastic!

Holland House Electrical

Although the season has been poor so far (not through the lack of fishing effort), it looks like the river is picking up. Holland House Electrical fishing this week have done there best considering the lack of fish on the first five beats above the Almond. Peter Morrison got the week under way with a lovely grilse on a pink and white tay lure.
Fly fishing guru Colin Dunnet got a sea-trout at the Five Trees and others have been unlucky with on-offs.
I will put in a post later with how we got on today. Cheers.

Sea Licer at last

Tiff and Rob Jones had a good day with me yesterday landing a good 11lb licer at the 5 Trees.  This was Robs first trip to the Tay and it took him all of about 5 casts to hook this fish on the Trout Toby! Rob and Tiff have had a great year so far with a fabulous wedding in Febuary (cheers guys) and honeymoon to the Far East - but Rob obvisously topped the lot with this fish!
Top man.

Good Sport

We are enjoying good sport at the moment, lets hope for plenty more to come - and some Springers!!
Tom Buchannan playing a good kelt at Lodge End.
Callum Hay on Saturday at Benchill Green.
When you're 9 you couldn't care less if it's a kelt.

Dark Skies above Fishponds.

A Fish every day in March so far!

Last sunday saw the Tay in spate with our boat up to the trees and the water a few feet from the bothy. We have seen so much of this lately so lets hope for a lower river soon.

There are fish about though and here is no 2 of 2014 - a sweet fish of 14lb for Greggor Nimmo from the boat on a vision. Typical springer battle!

no 1

Today we got off the mark with John Lessels getting this licer of 9 lbs out Lodge End from the bank. The river was rising fast and it wasn't long after that it was over 5 foot over the stone!
Well done John.

Rain

Still a big dirty river i'm sorry to say. 4.5 feet over and very mucky. It's raining.

Friday 24 January 2014

4 feet over

Big water but not manky like it would be after a sudden spate - just coloured. Raining tonight, but we like a challange. Hopefully we can fish in the morning.
Ross Mcgreggor is into some sport at the Iron Burn today.
I continue to look stylish.

2014 Opening Day

We had a great opening day with Alan Dunnet piping his guests down to toast the river. We had some sport with kelts too in the high water. I hope you all enjoy the 2014 season and that you have great success with your fishing!
As always Sandra Robbins gives us an excellent toast and gets our 2014 season underway.
